New CAP Code Introduced
The Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) recently launched a revised Code which takes non-paid for online advertising into account.
Previously the Code only covered paid-for marketing communications such as pop-up and banner ads, paid-search and viral ads. However, nearly two thirds of the complaints received about online marketing activity were not covered by the Code. The new guidelines fill this gap, covering marketing communications through company websites and other non-paid for space online, such as brand activity on social networks.
The Code ensures that all marketing communications are legal, honest, decent and truthful and all companies need to be aware of it to avoid legal action.
